Christina Bohn Foundation
Is it more than PMS? Learn about PMDD.
The Christina Bohn Foundation was created
to advocate for women suffering from
Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder (PMDD)
and Premenstrual Exacerbation (PME).
Through increased awareness and
education, we hope women will receive an
accurate and more timely diagnosis.
We also hope our efforts will prevent deaths
by suicide related to having PMDD.
In loving memory of Christina Elizabeth Bohn, whose spirit lives on and guides us in this important work to raise awareness of PMDD.
Our Mission
To advocate for increased awareness and education about premenstrual disorders so healthcare professionals and the public will recognize PMDD and PME much earlier in the diagnostic process.
Our Vision
Our hope is for PMDD and PME to become as commonly known as Premenstrual Syndrome (PMS) is known throughout the world.
About the Founders
Steve & Marybeth Bohn
Yale University, October 2024
Steve and Marybeth Bohn have been advocating for Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder (PMDD) since they lost their daughter, Christina Elizabeth Bohn, to suicide in 2021 due to the disorder. The thought of others suffering as their daughter did for 11 to 15 years before receiving a correct diagnosis motivates them to keep speaking out with the hope others will be diagnosed sooner than the average of 12 years.
Working together and individually, Steve and Marybeth have raised awareness of PMDD by recording podcasts; responding to interview requests; writing articles; speaking at universities, conferences, churches, civic groups, and other community events in Missouri and across the US.
To recognize the one-year anniversary of the signing of the bill designating October 2nd, Christina’s birthday, as PMDD Awareness Day in the state of Missouri, Steve and Marybeth organized the inaugural Christina Bohn Memorial 5K for PMDD Awareness, which was a big success.
After Christina’s death, Marybeth retired from the University of Missouri to focus on increasing awareness of PMDD. She is serving as interim president of the board of directors for the International Association for Premenstrual Disorders (IAPMD). Please visit iapmd.org for more information.
